U.S. Air Force Military Service Ornament

The Military Services is a special collection of ornaments I’ve made to honor the US armed forces. This is close to home for me because my father was a West Point graduate and served in the Army for 31 years; two of my brothers also served in the Army. My husband served in the Navy and later volunteered in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. His brother served in the Air Force; and the children of dear friends served in the Marines. Our country is protected by men and women in ALL these forces!

The seal of the particular military branch is framed by the official colors of that service. The bows and hangers are as close to the service colors as possible and may vary from one ornament to another in the same service.

This is one exception to repurposing fabric; the fabric with the seals was purchased from a small business, Creations by Myrolin on Etsy, which is one of my business goals. Supporting small business owners is vitally important and it’s my pleasure to do so!

All ornaments are made by me in my smoke-free, pet-free, and covid-free home. They are made by folding fabrics and pinning them to foam balls; they are NOT meant to be toys for children or pets.

This style of ornament is called a “snowglobe” and I learned the technique from a tutorial published by Staci Ann of the Ornament Girls which is another small, woman-owned business. The outer fabrics are pinned around the seal, providing a frame. There are a few Christmas ornaments that I’ve made in the same way!
